Bright Beginnings: Office Sneak-Peek

As I mentioned in a June post here, I have been working on an office renovation project. The office space is actually that of my family's business, and I have an office as well. The project is not totally complete (that post will be coming soon I promise), but the light fixture that I ordered for the bathroom came in and looks amazing. It is the Lantern with 3-light cluster from World's Away, and once I decided to go with the Antonia Vella organic-inspired wallpaper, I knew this fixture would be perfect! Don't you think it's a keeper?!

And since I've given you a look into the bathroom of the office project, I will give you a sneak peek into some other areas of the space. Keep in mind, not all furniture and fixtures have arrived yet so there is not much to really show right now. And speaking of not much to show, this business really makes you patient. I have been waiting on some shipments for over 2 months now! Anyway, enough about that...here are some of my favorite pieces.

I'm anxious to see the final project but am extremely pleased with it so far. An updated, refreshing office space is so close I can almost taste it!

I Spy...Cane Back!

I had been looking for the perfect chairs for a project, and when my eyes landed on a set of 6 cane backs in a local antique store, I couldn't pass them up. I knew what I wanted but just couldn't seem to find the look...until one day I got lucky...they found me!

The chairs will surround a stained wood meeting table and offer a traditional twist to a fairly modern space. I can't wait to recover them for the project (although I'm entertaining the idea of leaving the original cloth on the seats), and I'll definitely post pictures once they are installed.
 
While on the subject of cane backs, I have posted some additional pictures of a few that I love. The element of the cane blends so well with many styles and offers such sophistication to a space. I just love them!

Oldies but Goodies

Browsing antiques is one of my favorite ways to pass the time. They always tell a great story and add that "little something extra" to a room - contemporary or traditional in style. I just love them! I recently visited a local shop that has a multitude of hidden treasures - many originating from 19th century Belgium. I couldn't resist snapping some shots of a few pieces that caught my attention. I am definitely keeping my eye on them!

Some tips when antique shopping:

1) Try to find out the origin of the piece. Not only does it validate it's authenticity but makes it even more special.

2) Keep an open mind. While some pieces don't need a thing changed, many can take on a whole new look with just the right fabric or refinishing job.

3) Don't be afraid of imperfections or pieces that are worn. This can add character. If you prefer the "newer" look, these blemishes can oftentimes be remedied.

3) Search the "sale" section. It's a great place to find that budget-friendly piece that may set your room apart.
